About The Centre

AoKids Porirua offers warm and welcoming early learning for tamariki aged 6 months to 6 years, open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Our centre is home to a diverse, caring, and experienced team who are passionate about creating nurturing environments where children feel safe, valued, and supported throughout every stage of their learning journey. We believe strong relationships and kindness are at the heart of quality early learning, and we work closely with tamariki and whānau to create a genuine sense of belonging and connection.

At AoKids Porirua, children are encouraged to confidently learn, grow, explore, and thrive in environments that celebrate culture, identity, and community.

Our Environment

The environments at AoKids Porirua have been thoughtfully designed to reflect the AoKids journey, identity, and meaning inspired by the concepts of dawn, new beginnings, leadership, and innovative thinking. These spaces honour the organisation’s cultural foundations while embracing the evolving future of early learning in Aotearoa.

Unique design elements woven throughout the centre reflect the story of AoKids, creating warm and nurturing environments where tamariki and whānau experience belonging, creativity, connection, and opportunities to grow with confidence in who they are.

At AoKids Porirua, we offer:

  • Warm, welcoming, and nurturing spaces where tamariki feel safe, valued, and supported
  • Diverse teachers who are committed to your child’s learning and being apart of your child’s learning journey
  • Engaging indoor and outdoor environments that encourage exploration, creativity, and play-based learning
  • Opportunities for children to build confidence, independence, and meaningful relationships
  • A diverse and inclusive environment that celebrates culture, identity, and belonging for all whānau and tamariki

Foundation

AoKids Porirua was founded by the Wellington SDA Samoan Church to serve families within the community and create a dedicated space for early learning.

It was established as a place where culture, identity, and language could be strengthened, and where the hopes and dreams of Pacific families shaped by the aspirations of the founding elders and wider community could be lived out. The vision carried by that generation in the early 2000s continues to guide the purpose of the centre today.

After being closed for a number of years, AoKids has reopened the centre with the intention of restoring this legacy under the AoKids name continuing its original purpose while providing quality early learning for children today.
